In challenging times, women’s museums are resilient and responding…

The Society of Friends of St Ann’s Academy, a national heritage site that features the professional and activist work of the Sisters of St Ann, is organising a space called Coffee with Friends. The aim is to provide a discussion forum for women’s and gender justice activists, artists, community leaders, facilitators and educators interested in the issues that affect women’s lives.

Topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Gender justice: feminism, LGBTQIA2S+, women in STEM and trade professions
  • Feminist anti-racist adult education: BLM movement, Indigenous rights
  • Feminist movements: social, gender, climate/environmental, women’s museums, etcetera
  • Feminist activist methods past and present: protests, petitions, lobbying, arts-based practices (for example, zines, murals, quilts), digital practices (blogs, etc.)
  • Women and history on Vancouver Island: Indigenous stories and lives, heritage sites and museums on the island
  • Women and food security: community gardening, compost education, local farming and supporting local food
