Women’s Museums At Home: Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions.

Mar 25, 2020

In times when many museums worldwide are forced to keep their doors shut, we invite you to engage with exhibitions and collections of women’s museums virtually. Every day we will share with you an online exhibition or virtual view into one of our member museums worldwide.

Global Fund for Women presents: Fundamental. Gender Justice. No Exceptions.

For those of you spending more time indoors these days, or in need of an educational tool around gender justice, consider catching up on Fundamental: Gender Justice. No Exceptions. This five episode short film series is a character-driven documentary from Global Fund for Women and directed by two-time Academy Award-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Each episode shines a light on grassroots activists and community organizers who are fighting for gender justice and disrupting the status quo. The groups in this series, and others like them, are at the front lines of responding to crisis in their communities and building leadership and solidarity.

Feminist movements have the power to radically change the course of history for women and girls—and ALL historically marginalized people and communities globally. But what does it really look like to be a feminist leader today?

In Fundamental you meet grassroots movements and community leaders who are standing up for our fundamental human rights. The series profiles a distinct set of remarkable grassroots leaders working on issues from ending child, early, and forced marriage in Pakistan to pursuing LGBTQI+ liberation in Georgia. These incredible leaders are at the frontlines of fighting for gender justice, and mobilizing to write new futures for themselves, their societies, and the world. At a time of unprecedented political uprisings around the globe, Fundamental invites global audiences to engage directly with the dedicated and courageous leaders who are standing up for our fundamental human rights and writing new futures for themselves, their communities, and the world.

Visit fundamental-film.com to watch the episodes for free and learn more about gender justice movements across the globe.

We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has derailed many plans to gather in-person. You can sign up to host a virtual screening and we’ll get back to you with a discussion guide including all the tools you’ll need including for your virtual classroom, museum or community group. And if an in-person screening event is possible for your museum in the future, we can help with that, too.

For more information about how Global Fund for Women is responding to COVID-19 and why feminist solidarity and flexibility is needed more than ever right now you can read our statement here.

The films are available on YouTube with captions in 6 languages: English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, and Russian.
