Jul 25, 2019

The International Association of Women’s Museums (IAWM) congratulates the Organización Femenina Popular (OFP) – Popular Women´s Organisation on the opening of the women’s museum CASA MUSEO DE LA MEMORIA Y DE LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS DE LAS MUJERES in Barrio Torcoroma, Barrancabermeja (Colombia).

The International Association of Women’s Museums was glad to welcome the museum initiative from Colombia as a member in 2019. We share the happiness about the opening of the first women’s museum in Colombia. The godmother of our network, Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, stated “There has to be a women’s museum in every country of this world”. It fills us with pride and strength as we see museums around the world approaching that goal. The CASA MUSEO DE LA MEMORIA Y DE LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS DE LAS MUJERES is a result of a collective dream for peace, reconciliation and non-repetition of crimes against humanity.

We wish the museum the best of luck in its activities!
