Welcome to our new member: Istanbul Gender Museum

Established in October 2021 (Official registration 14 February 2022) by 18 volunteer women of different ages (between 30 and 73) and different background and expertise to open alternative spaces for discussing gender roles in all areas such as in women’s history, politics, peace, education, work, culture, art, climate crisis. The work of the museum is inclusive, demonstrates how factors such as mother tongue, ethnic groups, social classes, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, disability, religious affiliation and age can be taken account of in all fields of culture. With this concept
the museum opens space for dialogue and is a peace project.

Istanbul Gender Museum develops physical and virtual exhibitions as well as museum pedagogy modules and cultural activity concepts, publishes readers and closely cooperates with women’s and gender museums, NGOs and academic institutions in Turkey and the worldwide.

“Time to speak, Winning the city with women’s words and art”
