HERSTORYMUSEUM presents PERMISSION DE TRAVESTISSEMENT in the exhibition SHE, THE EYE, THE FINGER, THE HAND
Margaret Harrison/Nuria Güell/María María Acha-Kutscher

Curator: Alexandra Laudo

“‘Permission de Transvestissement’, refers to a Police authorization in Paris in the 19th century by which, in certain cases and circumstances, women were allowed to dress as a men. The installation brings together portraits, quotes and works by artists of different disciplines and times that have appropriated the symbols of power traditionally associated with masculinity, in a gesture of emancipation and claiming the right to determine their own image, or to mitigate inequalities that they suffered in relation to men”.
