Today is International Museum Day!

All over the world museums participate with content and events. This year ICOM has selected a theme that is very close to the heart of many women’s museums: Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion. IAWM members will participate by posting articles, reflections, videos, art positions, and images on social media with the Hashtags #imd2020 and #womensmuseumsforequality.

Museums are places to discover and to be curious. Since 1978 museums worldwide are celebrating International Museum Day every year. Women’s Museums use this day to shed light on women’s histories, art and achievements.

This is how Women’s Museums worldwide celebrated International Museum Day 2018:

The International Association of Women’s Museums celebrates together with its members International Museum Day: Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums.

Every day Women’s Museums around the world are making women’s history visible by telling the untold stories of women. They take an active role in peacefully addressing traumatic histories through mediation, and explore ways to understand the incomprehensible aspects of humanity’s contested histories.

Between 18 and 21 May Women’s Museums will tell their untold stories on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
