Solidarity support to women and the colombian people

May 15, 2021

Colombia is currently going through a violent military repression perpetrated by the State against the recent protests and the announcement of the anti-popular economic measures that President Duque intends to promote, which is exacerbated by the context of the global economic and health crisis caused by COVID-19. As a result, there are dozens of dead, hundreds injured, detained and missing. Women more than others are suffering state violence and sexual violence.

In this situation, IAWM (International Association of Women’s Museums), a strong network with over 60 member-museums worldwide whose collective goals are focused on education, empowerment, and self-confidence of women, stands in support of the Women’s Museum in Colombia, calling for an end to violence against women by the Colombian government.

The IAWM expresses outrage at this situation, denounces and repudiates the extreme level of militarized violence that does not respect the Colombian people, especially women.

In solidarity with the struggles of women who resist the violence of the patriarchal State, in solidarity and support for women’s rights, wherever they are in the world, we urge the Colombian government to stop violence and oppression against the people and especially Colombian women.

APOYO SOLIDARIO A MUJERES Y PUEBLO COLOMBIANO
