News from Women’s Museum Mexico

Oct 20, 2020

The Mexican Federation of University Women (FEMU) is pleased to inform you that since this August, our Federation was included in the list of non-governmental organizations recognized as consultative entities by the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

FEMU is organizing its Annual International Seminar. This year’s its title is “Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women’s lives”, and it will take place, virtually, through the MMM’s social networks on November 17-21, 2020. Its topics will comprehend: Women in the health sector, Violence against women in confinement, and COVID-19 multiple effects (health, economic, social, political, educational and cultural). There will be two sessions each day, one from 11:00 to 13:00 hours, and another from 18:00 to 20:00 hours (Mexico City time).

MMM is now well known in Colombia. Patricia Galeana, MMM’s founder and Director, was interviewed by Constanza Toquica, Director of both the Colonial and the Santa Clara’s Museums, regarding the challenges of running a gender museum. You can watch this interview here.

The highlight event of September was “The birth of Mexico”, a virtual conference by Patricia Galeana, during which she described the antecedents of Mexico’s War of Independence. Another highlight event was the virtual discussion “Beijing +25, the pending agenda between equality and the empowerment of indigenous women”, which emphasized the importance of the International Day of Indigenous Women. You can watch all our activities here.
