This year we can finally pick up our tradition with organising a series of  Women’s Days in our home town Kongsvinger again. We will warm up to March 8th with events on different locations around the town: There will be a “Women’s Quiz” on a local pub, and a lecture with Q&A about how women are represented in Norwegian war movies in a municipal assembly hall.

On the International Women’s Day itself there will be a traditional march with women’s political slogans going from the town centre to the Women’s Museum.

The main slogan in 2023 is “Freedom of Speech for all Women! Without Violence, Threats, Humiliation, and Shame”.

The main event takes place at the Women’s Museum after the march. Here, there will be speeches from representatives of different organisations and political parties, and a reading of a poem written especially for the event by poet Wenche Wangsmo. Keynote speaker is author Magnhild Folkvord with her lecture “Freedom of Speech, Suffrage rights, and Nylænde, the First Women’s Political Journal in Norway (1887).”

The IWD event ends at the Kongsvinger Cinema with a screening of the new Norwegian feminist film “Natt” by Mona Hoel.

The Women’s Days are organised by the March 8th  Committee in Kongsvinger in collaboration with the Women’s Museum Norway.
